Brief History of Friends
Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park is
a non-profit organization founded in 1997 to support and protect the state park in Franktown, Colorado. It was granted independent 501(c)(3) status in December 2003.
Origins and mission

Park Protection: The organization was founded by David Shipley, who became its incorporating and founding president. The original motivation was to protect the park from the threat of surrounding land developers.

Non-profit status: As a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Friends provide financial and operational support for the park.

Cooperation with state parks: The group works in cooperation with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, a relationship that began when state resources were limited.
