LUCAS HOMESTEAD-
METZLER ACQUISITION

The historical Lucas Homestead stands in testimony to Patrick and Margaret Lucas, Irish immigrants who raised 8 children in the concrete house built in 1898 and nestled on 160 acres on the west side of what is now Castlewood Canyon State Park. In 1979, Colorado State Parks began purchasing parcels of the homestead property from Lucas grandson Bob Metzler and his sister Rosemary, who wished to honor the memories of their grandparents. The final acres were purchased in 2002 by Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park.
